A dealer, Okechukwu Shadrach, 41, on Friday appeared earlier than an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State over alleged theft of a container load of automobile stereos valued at N9 million.
Shadrach, a resident of Onitsha in Anambra, pleaded not responsible to the two-count cost of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Peter Nwangwu, advised the court docket that the accused with others at massive conspired and stole a container load of automobile stereos valued at N9 million being property of Mr Chinasa Uzowuru.
“The accused offered an empty container to the complainant the place he loaded the stated items.
“The accused assured the complainant then that the container was travelling to Onitsha in Anambra.
“Shadrach later diverted the container load again to Lagos and offloaded the products in a warehouse at Ladipo, Mushin space of Lagos State, and offered all the products,’’ Nwangwu stated.
He stated that the accused dedicated the offences on Feb. 2, at about 10.30 a.m. at Mushin.
Nwangwu stated that the accused transformed the proceeds from the gross sales to his private use and absconded till he was apprehended by the police.
The prosecutor stated that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Chief Magistrate Y.O. Aje-Afunwa granted the accused bail within the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
Aje-Afunwa dominated that the sureties should be gainfully employed and have proof of three years’ tax cost to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till July 31 for service of proof of proof.
